Please join us for our 5th Annual Maryland Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Day where you will learn from state and federal leaders and meet with Maryland legislators who are transforming healthcare in Maryland. The theme for HIT Day 2012 is Supporting HealthCare Reform: HIT Transformation in Action.
The event will be held at the Governor Calvert House located at 58 State Circle in downtown Annapolis across the street from the Maryland State House. There is NO FEE to attend! In order to participate, you MUST REGISTER online no later than February 2nd.
The Maryland House and Senate convene at 10:00am prior to the start of the HIT Day program. You are welcome to watch the proceedings from the galleries and be part of the MD HIMSS membership that is recognized from the floor of the House.
Check-in for the HIT Day event begins at 11:00am at the Governor Calvert House and lunch starts promptly at 11:30am. Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Maryland’s Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, will make opening remarks regarding the state innovation and national leadership position we are achieving in healthcare reform and accordingly HIT. The keynote address will be delivered by Ms. Claudia Williams, Office of the National Coordinator’s Director of the Office of State and Community Programs. Ms. Williams will share the national vision on HIT innovation enabling healthcare reform. General Assembly members are invited to join us for lunch and the speaker program.

Following the keynote address, we will conduct an ‘HIT in Action’ Panel Discussion with focus on local success stories and challenges of innovative HIT implementations including patient portal technologies, health information exchange, and telemedicine services.
An integral part of HIT Day is the individual meetings with your Delegates and Senators. We will hold a brief session immediately following lunch to prepare for meeting with legislators between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. Legislators place great value on individual contact with constituents and it is extremely important that we meet with as many of our Senators and Delegates as possible.

The 2010 – 2011 Educational Year was another great year for MDHIMSS. Our attendance grew as we celebrated our 25th Anniversary with a great Educational season, a Harbor Cruise, a Networking Event, and our very first Golf Tournament! It provided ample opportunity for friends to re-unite, new bonds to be formed, and participants to network with their peers and our vendors. This upcoming Educational Year should be no different, and we are excited about the calendar of events that we have planned for this upcoming Educational Year.
